Herbalife Healthy Maintenance Program For Expectant Mums

 

Here’s a few tips on how to have a Herbalife healthy pregnancy without gaining too much weight.   

Expectant Mums should not be skipping meals to keep their weight under control, this is NOT an option as the baby needs a good supply of blood sugar from the shared blood stream of it’s Mum which is a good source of vitamins and minerals.  There is actually an increased need for more vitamins and minerals during pregnancy, so taking a daily multi vitamin supplement is a sensible precaution. 

If thinking of getting pregnant it’s advised to take 400mg of folic acid until you are 12 weeks pregnant this can help reduce risks of spinal bifida. The Herbalife Multi Vitamin and the Formula 1 shake both contain folic acid. Examples of folic acid rich foods are: broccoli, spinach, chick peas, bran flakes etc. 

During early pregnancy the extra amount of food intake and energy required is very small, so you do not need to eat for two (eating for two is a myth !) you just need to eat a healthy balanced diet.  

With the Herbalife maintenance program an expectant Mum would have one Formula 1 shake a day, typically for breakfast and then healthy balanced meals for the rest of the day. It’s only in the last trimester (last 3 months) that there is an increase in energy needs as the baby grows larger. The recommendation is to have an extra 200 calories a day at this time – that’s 200 calories of good food.

Lastly it’s a good idea to take some form of daily exercise (whatever you did before you got pregnant) sports such as swimming, dancing, walking but nothing to strenuous, as long as you feel comfortable doing it.  Exercising will help you get your figure back to how it was before pregnancy, don’t forget the celebrities all have help and personal trainers !! 

According to the newspapers yesterday celebrity Mums are putting too much pressure on new Mums, as they seem to get the regain their svelte like figures back, just weeks after giving birth.   

The issue of overweight Mums is becoming more of a problem as the number of obese Mums continues to rise.  Not enough help is given to new Mums on nutrition during and after their pregnancy, which is most important time for the baby’s growth and development.

Being overweight and gaining too much weight during pregnancy can increase the risk of certain health conditions, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and high chloresterol.
